The National Flag of MaltaThe National Flag of Malta consists of two equal vertical stripes, white in the hoist and red in the fly. Count Roger the Normal (crowned in Palermo in 1070) had landed in Malta in 1090 and terminated 300 years of Arab rule. Seeing that the Maltese had no flag, he removed and tore off two squares from his red and white checkered standard, and gave it to the Maltese. A representation of the George Cross awarded to Malta and the whole population during the Second World War by His Majesty King George VI (the Sixth) on the 15th April, 1942 is carried or embedded, edged with red, in the canton of the white stripe of the flag. No other flag of this sort exists.
The following is the older flag gif which I had found on the Internet - I am still keeping it for reference. The George Cross text is not as visible as in the new jpg.
