Lascaris war rooms were the Operational Headquarters which were built in order to provide a secure place from where war operations could be conducted. The war rooms are located deep in the rock under St Peter and St Paul Bastion which forms part of the defences of Valletta built by the Knights of St John in 1566.<br />

The ‘La Valette’ band has been playing in the streets of Valletta since the feast of Our Lady of Mount Carmel in July 1875. </p>

The Church was built in 1598 and was completed by 1607. In 1681 it was built anew through the &#8220;munificence&#8221; of Grand Master Gregorio Carafa, whose coat of arms adorns the façade. The church still hosts precious works of art including paintings by Mattia Preti, Pietro Gagliardi and Filippo Paladini, as well as the titular statue of St Francis. </p>

The Carmelite priests moved to the new city of Valletta in 1570. The first church dedicated to our Lady of Mount Carmel was designed by the famous Maltese architect Gilormu Cassar. This Church served as the fist parish of the new capital between 1570 and 1582.<br />

The church of the Friars Minor, is dedicated to St Mary of Jesus, known as Ta&#8217; Giezu. In 1571 the Friars Minor were granted a piece of land in Valletta (Malta) on which to build a church. Work began shortly afterwards, following the design of Gerolamo Cassar. The facade was replaced in 1680 by Mederico Blondel. The main attraction is undoubtedly the impressive Miraculous Crucifix (in Maltese: Il-Kurcifiss Mirakuluz), by the Sicilian friar Umile Pintorno around 1630. </p>

<p>At Cavalier House in Old Mint  Street, Valletta, tonight there will be an exhibition held at the initiative of Lands Parliamentary  Secretary Jason Azzopardi, will include the Cantilena by Pietru Caxaru &#8211; the oldest record available of the Maltese language. Caxaru&#8217;s Cantilena has not been shown in public for the past 10 years.</p>
<p>It was found by Prof. Geoffrey Wettinger and Fr Mikiel Fsadni back in 1966.</p>

Allow yourself to be  transported into the fascinating world of oriental music and dance: from  the scintillating folkloric moves of the Al Haggalla; the twirling of  the Assaya; to the glamorous, lively modern cabaret styles. <p>Built between 1776 and 1796, the National Library was inaugurated by  the British Civil Commissioner in 1812.  In 1976, the Library was  officially designated as the National Library of Malta and became solely  a research and reference Library.</p>

<p><strong>The President’s Palace – St George’s Square</strong></p>
<p>The Palace of the Grandmasters, currently known as the Presidential  Palace, was built in the 16th century to the design of the Maltese  architect Girolamo Cassar. This Palace continues to serve as a vibrant  centre of political and administrative activity since it houses the  Office of the President, the House of Representatives and several  important Government offices.</p>

<p>The Square, located right in front of the National Library of Malta  is the home of the statue of Queen Victoria.  The statue was sculpted by  Giuseppe Valente and erected in 1891 to commemorate her 50th .  It  continues to preside over the square still commonly known as Pjazza  Regina.</p>
