About Malta Network Resources
| This site is still Malta's only non-commercial web index and search engine.
Since 1993, Malta Network Resources has organised, links from Malta and about Malta,
and was relaunched on the web in July 1996.
While someone may falsely claim to be a search engine (the power of marketing which fools people), and in reality be
just another Web Directory,
this is not the case with this website. Malta Network Resources is a true search engine whose
purpose is to help you find the resource you're looking for. Various site pages were found by
Malta Network Resources' own search spider (web robot) - User-Agent Brimba (this spider is the first Maltese
spider in existence. It obeys the standard robots.txt convention and should not overload any server).
Brimba 2.01 like its predecessors was written in Pascal. The search frontend was custom written using
Php and Mysql, open source technology. Sites who spam are removed from the index or penalised
in the search results. You can submit a URL by submitting it to the Malta Web Directory.
Search results are now integrated with search in the directory and other parts of Malta Network Resources. You can
also search Usenet postings.
Malta Network Resources was the first Maltese site to finish first on IBM's Aqui and one of
the first two Maltese sites which won two international web awards. Of course,
now it has won many more awards such as the top place in the Web Hot 1000 of Maltese siets.
This is the authoritative selected search index of Maltese network
resources, including web servers and sites reachable through the internet.
It is the first choice for this purpose and one which is most convenient to use.
Voting for Malta Network Resources in the discontinued The People's Choice Top 100
finished with this site ending up in position 19 in the charts (the highest Maltese site in the chart!).
